What a sunny day! Eating my fresh apple pie from the local, corner pastry shop and walking through the picturesque, narrow streets of the Old town in Rethymno.. I was like the protagonist Julia Roberts in ‘Eat, pray, love’ film, tasting the flavors and smiling…although we are in the middle of the second quarantine period. Rethymno has too many to offer to its people. Its calmness, physical beauty, monuments, nature, sea view, flowers and colours.. You can notice local people laughing loudly and discussing; they seem smiley even though they wear masks, maintaining all the appropriate hygiene measures..They keep going, they go out in the fresh air and enjoy strolling around, cycling and playing with their children next to the sea shore..This moment some people are having a picnic on the grass, others are eating a take-away delicacy while another guy is lying on the beach, collecting vitamin D. I always have the tendency to look up to the beautiful balconies and the Venetian Old buildings, capturing the history and the ornate architecture. Rethymno is really a piece of Art..I’m writing this article now, opposite the lighthouse, watching all this from the open window and I can’t wait to go out again to the streets of my lovely Rethymno..
